See & Do

Just 1.5 hours from the Twin Cities, nestled comfortably within a landscape of winding riverways, soaring pines and incredible wetlands, you’ll find Burnett County, Wisconsin. Much like our abundant riverways, a quiet energy flows just beneath the surface of life in our rural Wisconsin community.  Boasting over 500 pristine lakes and nearly 80 miles of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, Burnett County is a haven for water enthusiasts of all types.  From swimming and canoeing, to ice fishing and snowmobiling, memorable moments on our waters are yours for the taking year round.

But the fun doesn’t stop where the water meets the shoreline.  Our natural spaces are second to none – enjoy a leisurely hike or bike ride on one of our many scenic trailways or take advantage of over 50,000 acres of Wildlife areas, including our very own Wetlands Gem, Crex Meadows.  Trophy harvests, like the Jim Jordan Buck, entice hunters from the region with elusive opportunities that can be found in every season.

While here, take a tour of the historical Forts Folle Avoine and be whisked away to a time almost forgotten. The 80 acre national historical site features two reconstructed trading posts and offers tours from Memorial Day weekend through September. Continue on to the northernmost reaches of the county and experience the culture of the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin.  Beyond a beautiful and modern hotel and casino experience, the tribe also offers festivities and events steeped in cultural tradition, including the annual St. Croix Traditional Wild Rice Pow-Wow.

Home to many more spirited events like the World Championship Snowmobile Watercross and a St. Patrick’s Day Parade that swells a small community to twenty times its normal size, there is no better way to experience our culture than through one of our many exciting events throughout the year.

Looking for a great dining experience? Enjoy a wood-fired pizza, sample the fares from one of our local wineries, or partake in a casual meal at one of two carhop drive ins.  Burnett Dairy features artisan cheeses, a delicatessen, incredible wine offerings and homemade ice cream.  At the end of the day, enjoy friendly company at one of our welcoming taverns before heading back to relax at one of our great resorts or hotels.

A true getaway for water and wildlife enthusiasts and the like, Burnett County is your premier northwest Wisconsin destination.
