Event Details

The ability to turn a raw animal skin into a usable and durable piece of leather was a pivotal discovery in human evolution. Not only is it a way to utilize every single part of your game animals, but it gave (and gives) us a wonderful material to work with. It is soft, supple, Water resistant, and very strong. Brain tanned deer hides can make: Clothing, shoes, Bags, cases, Blankets, shelters, and more. This amazing material has been a very valuable part of human knowledge for thousands of years. In this 3 day workshop you will turn a raw deer hide into finished leather. We will utilize the wet scrape method to remove the flesh and hair. Then we will use an egg mixture to open up the fibers in the leather and break it down before we smoke it to waterproof and finish the tan. Every student will go home with a finished tanned hide (as long as you are willing to put in the work to finish it). You will also gain a whole new level of confidence and strength in knowing that you can use, and process a hide all on your own. Friday June 15-Sunday June 17 9 am-5pm each day Siren, wi. 350.00
