On November 20, 1914, James Jordan, 22 years old, shot a massive 10 point whitetail near his home town of Danbury in Burnett County, Wisconsin. Eventually, the buck was recognized as the world record by Boone and Crockett Club. Its antlers measured 206-1/8” according to the club’s scoring system. As of now, this record still stands.
The famous buck will be commemorated on September 24, 2022, with the unveiling of a giant statute and display in Danbury, right beside the Gandy Dancer Trail, followed by a town and area celebration, including food trucks, booths, and entertainment.
There will be an appearance by Ron Shara, a writer and television personality who has been sharing outdoor stories with readers and viewers for four decades, bringing to life the joys of nature watching, fishing, hunting, and camping. He is founder/executive producer of Ron Schara Productions, recipient of nine Emmy Awards.
Our tentative plan includes speakers at 10:00 AM, the unveiling, and the celebration. There will be informational booths, crafts for sale, activities for kids of all ages, food, beverages, music in the streets and a parade! This is a big event for Danbury, Burnett County, and indeed, all of Northwestern Wisconsin.
