The people have spoken, and Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park has been voted the top history/culture experience for 2017!

Step back in time at Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park. Adults and children alike will enjoy this national register of historic places site on the banks of the Yellow River, featuring two reconstructed fur trading posts and a Woodland Indian Village. The only site of its kind, The Fort offer guests the opportunity to step back in time with authentic restorations, reenactments and world-class events.

In 1969, the historic site of two 1800s fur trading posts was discovered on the outskirts of Webster. What was quickly identified as a truly unique and special historical discovery became The Fort. Tasked with the restoration of the site was the Burnett County Historical Society, which to this day maintains and manages the historic property. Stop by the park’s on-site research library to learn more about how members are preserving this site.

Open from May through September, and for special events in between, take advantage of the opportunity to experience exhibits and displays celebrating Ojibwe heritage, the history of the fur trade, a 1800s schoolhouse, a Quebec-style clay oven, logging museum and a blacksmith shop. The park’s visitor center showcases exhibits with original artifacts excavated from the original fur post site. In the gift shop, guests will find fur trade and Native American items to take home as mementos and souvenirs. Stop by the park’s on-site research library.

Known for incredible events, Forts Folle Avoine attracts massive crowds for their annual Rendezvous, when over several hundred re-enactors bring the 80-acre park to life in true 19th century fur trading form. Visitors are encouraged not only to watch, but to participate in tomahawk, knife and spear throwing and archery contests. Find a treasure as you wander thru Trader’s Row.
