#1 Bloody Mary in Burnett County for 2020
The 2020 Top 10 Must Dos in Burnett County Wisconsin have been announced, and I have assigned myself the task of visiting or doing each and every one of these fun things this year. I happened to be near the 10th Hole on County Road U recently, and decided it was a good time to start by visiting this iconic bar and try their famous Bloody Mary. YOU voted it the #1 Bloody Mary in Burnett County for 2020, and I needed to see why.
I stopped at mid-morning on a freezing cold Saturday, and was greeted by Chuck Anderson, the owner, and several patrons who were sitting around the bar sharing in the camaraderie that can only be found in a cozy bar on a cold winter’s day. I took a seat at the bar and ordered a Bloody Mary. I was hungry as well as thirsty, so I decided to order breakfast too. The menu at the 10thHole is surprisingly wide, with many choices for breakfast. I decided to give the country fried steak and eggs a try, asking the bartender to tell the cook to make my eggs over medium but to be sure to not overcook the yolks, because I like dipping my toast but do not like runny whites.
The 10th Hole has been owned and operated by Chuck and Sheila Anderson for over 30 years. It is a sports bar and grill, serving food all day long, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is located next to Sand Greens Country Club golf course (used to be known as Yellow Lake Golf Course). The bar hosts a variety of fun events and activities, including hex bug and hot wheels races, cribbage, trivia, and various pub crawls. It is on the snowmobile trail system, and while I was there a family of sledders came in off the trail and tried the Bloody Mary’s as well.

My Bloody Mary was presented to me in a tall mug with a generous coating of savory celery salt mix on the rim along with a tap beer chaser. A crispy dill pickle spear and a jumbo green olive protruded from the drink. I took my first sip and knew immediately that this was indeed the best Bloody Mary in Burnett County. It was meaty and juicy, with just the right blend of spices, Worcestershire sauce, vodka and tomato juice. It was not too spicy, but not at all bland. I enjoyed it so much that I had two!
My breakfast, which came out just after the second drink was placed before me, was absolute perfection as well. The country fried steak was tasty, with a crispy coating, and covered in a delicious creamy sausage gravy. The best part was that my eggs were cooked exactly as I had asked, as perfect as they can be. I enjoyed my meal so much that I had to thank the cook personally.
If you have not tried the 10th Hole’s Bloody Mary yet, you must! It was a truly fine, classic drink, savory with just enough spice, not too hot, and chock full of flavor. It was not overflowing with unnecessary accouterments, and the pickle and olives that came with the drink added just the right amount of crisp and chew that the drink could be passed off as a meal if needed. If you go, bring your appetite and try the food too!
